Krzysztof Rapsa

Krzysztof Rapsa

A painter and workshop graphic, he lives and works in Koszalin. He was the founder of the TWA art group which promoted young artists. He is a member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, and of the ERA-ART Association for the Promotion of Polish Coastal Artists in Gdynia. His paintings are a world of artistic fantasy, a world of varied associations.

In the 1980s, a series of exhibitions in West German galleries started his adventure with colour that has led him through a whole range of exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He opened his 2012 season at the van Golik gallery in Warsaw.

In September 2012, the prestigious Jang Sun Gallery in Seoul hosted his solo exhibition; he was hailed as “a poet of colour”. The exhibition by the Polish abstractionist led him to become the most widely known currently active Polish artist in South Korea. Professional magazines and journals wrote about Rapsa’s paintings, while reports and photographs from the opening night of the exhibition appeared in The Korea Herald and The Korea Times. The Art Magazine Misoolsidae published enthusiastic reviews, hailing Rapsa a leading global abstractionist: “he isn’t a pretender; he’s already part of it”, said a text by the Polish Embassy in Seoul on 1 October 2012.

The artist’s motto (Krzysztof Rapsa about himself)
Abstraction lets me sightsee in the world of my imagination, my imagined world of forms and colours. I like painting it, creating an intimate relation between myself and the painting. However, I only feel an artist when the amazing emotions and interpretations of the viewers reach me, and the viewers become co-creators of my art.
